Do you have clothes that are wasting away in your closet? Any last-season duds that you never got around to wearing? With American Red Cross clothing donations, you can go green, give back to your community and save money all at once.
Give Back and Go Green
In the United States, people buy almost 20 billion garments a year. To atput that into perspective that’s more than once piece of clothing per week, or 68 garments and 7 pairs of shoes per person.
When we get bored with our clothes, we tend to throw them away, often letting our clothes end up in landfills. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that Americans throw away 10 pounds of clothing a year. When you make used clothing donations, you are softening your impact on the environment.
Donate Clothes and Serve Your Community
Homelessness is something that affects many Americans. In 2015, over 564,000 people were homeless on a given night. Meanwhile, 15 percent of the homeless population is considered “chronically” homeless. The American Red Cross serves homeless Americans across the country, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The Red Cross provides adults and children with much needed services like blankets, food and shelter. Your clothing donations can be added to that list.
In the United States, 70 percent of people give to charity to each year. Your singular contributions may be small, but they’re part of a larger to help fellow Americans.
