From Termites to Cockroaches, There are Plenty of Good Reasons to Call an Exterminator

When you envision your ideal home and future, there are likely some pretty specific factors. Maybe you picture certain aesthetics for the home, or a specific neighborhood. Perhaps you are planning to build a house exactly how you want it, or you have your eye on an old house full of history. Whatever the case may be, you are not envisioning a place that houses unwanted guests. Pests can turn the perfect home into a headache quite quickly. Different pests are sometimes handled in different ways, so it is important to find the appropriate extermination services for your specific problem.

Dealing with different types of pests
Depending on the area in which you live or even the specific area within your neighborhood, you could have a different pest problem than someone who lives not far away. It could also have to do with the age of your house, the way it was built, and the current condition of the home.

  • Bed bugs
The thought of bed bugs for many people is enough to give them shivers of disgust. This pest can be considered among the worst because it not only infests your home, but makes its way to your bed, where you count on feeling the safest and most secure. Knowing that you have a bed bug infestation shatters that perception and often takes away your ability to relax and rest when you need to. Bed bugs are a common problem that pest control specialists deal with, and almost 100% of those professionals have dealt with a bed bug situation over the course of the past year.
  • Cockroaches
Cockroaches are among the most resilient of the creatures that populate this planet, and also among the most despised. No one wants to deal with cockroaches. Especially because they often seem to be invincible. It is quite the formidable foe that can go without water for a week, without food for a month, can hold its breath for 40 minutes, and can survive being submerged under water for 30 minutes. Getting rid of this pest will almost certainly require an expert.
  • Ants
Another common problem is ants. Over half of homeowners, at 56%, have reported over the course of the past year that they have had issues with ants. While ants may not seem like quite as big of a problem as cockroaches, bed bugs, or termites, there still could be a need for pest control. While it could seem ultimately harmless, there could still be structural problems in your home that allow them to get in, particularly if you are dealing with carpenter ants. If carpenter ants are your problem, they could even be causing the damage, much like termites.
  • Termites
Anyone who has heard of termites knows that they are not an insect that would be welcome anywhere near the home. These destructive bugs that feed on the structure of your home, with the ability to eat through wood and wallpaper alike. They have been around for 130 million years, descending from an ancestor that was much like the cockroach of today. Now, there are 45 species of termites within the United States alone, and more than 2,300 species around the globe.
  • Spiders
Some people realize that they have a spider problem, which may not be surprising, given the fact that in general, there are around 1 million spiders that live on just one acre of land. In some areas of the world that number is even higher, like in the tropics, where the number of spiders reaches approximately 3 million in just one acre of land. It has been estimated that wherever you happen to be in the world, you are never more than just 10 feet away from one kind of spider or another.

There are a number of pests that could be creeping into your home. While it is certainly not something you should live in fear of, it does call for a routine maintenance checkup of your home to assess the pest status. And if you do find that your house is harboring any of those unwanted guests, it would behoove you to bring in an exterminator right away.
