Colorado donors united in order to make a whopping $26.2 million worth of charitable donations to 1,677 nonprofits all within 24 hours on Colorado Gives Day 2014 on December 9, surprising the previous year’s unprecedented $20.5 million by 7:22 p.m. that evening.
This initiative is reflective of the giving spirit of the holiday seasons, in which communities across the country rally together in order to make donations for non profit organizations.
If you’re looking for ways to donate, but are short on time, there are several non profit organizations that pick up donations right from the comfort and convenience of your home. The only question is, what to donate? Gently used clothing donations, household good and appliances, in addition to healthy, non-perishable food items are all essential items. However, one of the most valuable item you can donate — aside from money, of course — is your time.
The holiday season is a busy time for charities and other non profits, as they work diligently to ensure the needs of the community are met. As such, volunteering to cook a meal, pick up donations, or sort and distribute donations for non profit organizations are excellent ways of volunteering.
In fact, the notion that giving is better than receiving is quite true. Volunteering has been proven to be beneficial to one’s mental and emotional state, by promoting a sense of purpose and well being.
Remember, no matter how much time you volunteering, your efforts are truly making a difference.
