When Was the Last Time You Took a Family Vacation?

Take a break!

The need for a vacation is even the topic of one in the songs of the Broadway hit musical Take a Break.

It seems that the problem of finding time to get away from work has been a problem for centuries. Even the Founding Fathers could not find the right balance between work and play. Today, of course, there are millions of Americans who do not find a way to take vacation. For some, it is a financial problem, but these workers need to realize that a few days away from work every now and then can make everyone more productive. For people who do not have problems with finances, there are still many who do not take time away from the office. For some, even when they do make plans to vacation with the family they are still on the computer, on the phone, and constantly in contact with employees and supervisors.

When was the last time that you took a few days from work? If you are not finding time to spend some vacation days with your family or with friends you are likely more stressed than you need to be. For some, even getting away from the office to spend a day alone can provide the motivation to return to the job more productive and focused.

Outdoor Vacation Get Aways Are Often the Very Best Option for Many Individuals and Families

From luxury cabins near a stream known for great fly fishing to a simple tent along a beautiful hiking trail, there are many times when the great outdoors is the perfect vacation solution. In fact, while ski resorts in Colorado may be the dream vacation for some, private fly fishing and luxury cabins in the summer may be the solution for others. Either way, getting yourself and your family away from technology and outside is always an advantage. With time to relax and long stretches of conversation, parents can reconnect with their children and spouses can remember their best time together while making new memories as well.

From king in Colorado to fly fishing in other mountain spots, there are many times when luxury cabins can create a setting that is as comfortable as home, without all of the maintenance and cleaning responsibilities. Families who vacation together find that they are able to more easily navigate the challenging situations that occur when they are back at home. Likewise, when the head of the household steps away from the responsibilities of work for a few weeks every year, they come back to the job ready to look at the same problems and challenges with a new vision.

Unfortunately, there are still too many people who do not take the vacation days that are available to them. Thinking that the office cannot run while they are away, these overworked individuals do not realize the benefits of time spent in luxury cabins, beside a mountain lake, or on a nature trail.

Consider these facts and figures about the people who do realize the value of using their vacation days:

  • More than 49 million Americans participated in freshwater, saltwater and fly fishing in 2017.
  • The number of skiers in the U.S. in 2017 amounted to nearly 14.94 million.
  • There are 9.2 million horses in the U.S., and more and more Americans are realizing the benefits of riding.
  • An estimated 7 million people ride horses each year in the U.S.
  • Although there are many other places for hiking and skiing, Colorado is the nation’s highest state with more than 50 peaks higher than 14,000 feet.

What is the balance of your vacation days at work? Are you someone who makes vacation days a priority, or are you someone who finds pride in the fact that you never take a day off work? Finding the right balance between work and time office is an age old problem. Take a Break, as the song in the musical Hamilton talks about is a good directive to follow. All work and no play do not help people stay healthy and motivated to face the many challenges that are a part of the days when they are in the office.
