Some people might fear retirement being concerned that they will not feel like they have a purpose. But giving up is not at all the purpose of retiring. The ability to do so should be seen as a reward from a life time of handwork in order to finally enjoy all of the great things life has to offer.

While climbing a mountain or skiing down a steep mountain may be beyond the physical abilities of someone who’s old enough to retire, there are still plenty of unique adventures available that can offer the same excitement.

One option that can offer plenty of relaxation and pampering is to move to retirement living communities. They can offer the relaxed lifestyle so many pine for with plenty of resort-style amenities to match. One of the biggest upsides to these communities is the recreational opportunities.

Even if an elder can’t participate in extreme sports, it’s still important to lead an active lifestyle. In fact, a recent survey found that 81% of retirees cited good health as a crucial ingredient for a happy retirement.

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), if you are 65 or older and in fairly good shape, you should be getting a minimum of two hours and 30 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity every week. In addition, you should be doing muscle training twice a week as well. The workout facilities and other activities offered by resort-style amenities, such as golf courses or swimming pools, can help you keep up with a healthy routine.

With the baby boomer generation beginning to reach retiring age, there will be a large need for living communities with these resort-style amenities. By 2030, all baby boomers will have passed 65, making the over 65-crowd account for 20% of the population. Don’t they all deserve to be as comfortable as possible?
